The Yeshiva
The Yeshiva of the St Petersburg Jewish Community
The Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim-Lubavitch was founded in St Petersburg in 1993 at the direct behest of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The Worldwide Chabad Lubavitch Organization was the founder of the Yeshiva. At the beginning, the Yeshiva did not have its own building, and its students studied in the Synagogue premises. In 2000, with support from George Rohr, a major benefactor from the USA, building number 24, Soyuza Pechatnikov st. was purchased and the Yeshiva was installed there. Since then the adult division of the Yeshiva has graduated around 200 students. Many of them made a permanent commitment to Judaism in their lives. Dozens of them set up families on the basis of the Holy Torah and its commandments.
Yeshiva students study each day from 8 am to 9 pm. The unique feature of studying the Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim is that along with the open Torah (Pentateuch, Book of Prophets and Writings, Talmud), the secret Torah (HassidicTorah).
The task of studies is the formation of an integral personality dedicated to Judaism and founding one’s whole life on the principles of Jewish ethics and morality, profoundly understanding the secrets of the universe. This is precisely what gives the Yeshiva graduate the strength to stand firm before life’s difficulties and to remain true to his traditions. Besides studying the traditional Jewish disciplines, Yeshiva students receive specialties that are much in demand in the Jewish world, such as Mashgiach – the specialist in Kashruth, manager of Jewish projects, teacher of Jewish tradition, Soifer. They then can find work in the various Jewish communities around the world. Graduates of the Yeshiva can continue their education in Israel, moving on to a higher level of studies in the Yeshivas of Tsfat, Jerusalem, Kfar Chabad or at the center of Lubavitcher Yeshivas in New York.
