The richest Jews of Great Britain came to St.-Petersburg in retro cars A motorcade consisting of fanciful retro cars drove into St.-Petersburg June, 9. St.-Petersburg was the finishing point of the car rally, which started in England and included capitals of five countries. The rally, whose motto was “To Russia with Gloves”, was initiated by Jewish National Fund of Britain. Its participants were the richest Jews of England, owners of antique and retro cars. At around 4500&, the participation was not cheap, and those wishing to lead the motorcade had to pay the whopping 100 000&. All money raised will go to support Israel, mostly the medical projects of the state. “Not only did the participants enjoy the pleasure and adventure of the fancy trip, but were also happy to support their historical homeland”, said to our reporter Avraam Kalman, representative of JNF in Israel. At the invitation of the St.-Petersburg Jewish Religious Community, the guests spent a few action-packed days in St.-Petersburg. After attending the Shabbat Service in the city’s Grand Choral Synagogue, they enjoyed a full day of sightseeing on Sunday. On Monday they visited the newly-open Community Center “Maor”. |
