S. PETERSBURG, Russia – In the wake of a tragedy that took the lives of 25 S. Petersburg residents visiting southern Israel, the Chairman of the Jewish community of S. Petersburg, Mark Grubarg, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He also emphasized that the Jewish community of S. Petersburg is fully ready to assist the relatives of those killed and injured in Eilat, the site in southern Israel where a bus full of tourists went over a steep cliff, resulting in the biggest tragedy of this kind ever seen in Israel.
“We are shocked by this terrible tragedy that took the lives of 30 people and maimed more than two dozen others,” commented Mark Grubarg. “No words can express the shock that was felt by our community upon hearing the news about this disaster. It is shocking that this happened in Israel – a country with which we are linked by multiple ties, a country famous for its traditional hospitality and vigilant attitude toward security.”
According to the Chairman, the Jewish community of S. Petersburg has forged strong ties with Israel – at the legal, educational, cultural level, as well as with respect to the charitable activities carried out by the local community and Chesed.
